mobile Forest Data Bank
The mBDL app allows access to forest maps on phones and tablets, such as: a base map, a tree stand map, ownership forms, forest habitats, plant communities, a hunting map, tourist development maps, as well as fire hazards and temporary forest entry bans.
Users can also display predefined raster backgrounds, such as topographic maps or aerial/satellite orthophotomaps, as well as maps from external WMS services. Addresses for the most popular services, such as cadastral data, orthophotomaps, or the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ), are permanently stored in the app for easy access. Other WMS services can be connected by entering a specific URL, which is then saved in the app.
The app also works without internet connectivity, but the appropriate data must be downloaded first. This mechanism allows for the use of maps of forest districts and national parks. Along with maps, which are saved in raster format, vector data with descriptive attributes is downloaded for State Forests (PGL LP) forests.
The mBDL application provides users with online access to a complete forest valuation description for all ownership types. This description includes, among other things, the species of trees and shrubs occurring in a given location, their detailed description, forest address, management guidelines, and much more.
The application also features a number of useful field features: area and distance measurement, point recording from a GPS location or from a map indication, route recording, and simple navigation to a specified point. Saved points and routes can be exported as a KML file, sent via any method, or imported to another device on which the application is also installed. In mBDL, you can search for forest divisions based on a forest address, cadastral plot, or a point using its coordinates. This tool works similarly to the search function on the web portal. The Help menu also provides instructions, which are worth reviewing before using the application.
Below, we present one of the videos on downloading data for offline use. Other video tutorials cover searching for cadastral plots, searching for address points, searching for forest divisions, searching by coordinates, as well as the "show my location," "save a point with my location," "share my location," and "registering a route" and "tools on the map" functions.
Traditional mBDL user’s manual for Android and iOS devices are also available.
