NFI (National Forest Inventory)

The Forest Data Bank provides reports and summaries prepared annually as part of the National Forest Inventory. The FDB does not collect or share source data collected on sample plots.

The purpose of the national forest inventory is to assess the condition of forests and the direction of changes in this condition on a large-scale. This inventory is designed to provide reliable information about forests, particularly regarding species structure, age structure, health status, and the occurrence of forest damage.

The introduction of the National Forest Inventory (NFI) enabled a uniform description of the structure and size of forest resources in all forms of ownership, and the cyclical repetition of measurements allows for the capture of changes occurring in forests nationwide. NFI provides reliable data primarily on the area and volume structure (by species and age classes), the amount of deadwood resources, health status, and forest damage. Additionally, the NFI results are an important source of knowledge about the structure of habitats, the condition of the young generation, the current increase in the volume of stands and the size of the main use.
